What’s next on your spiritual journey?

Wondering what’s next on your spiritual journey? First things first. Listen to the eight-minute meditation above. Once you’ve done that, scroll down to the next part.

Wait, have you listened to the meditation yet?

No, like, really, have you?

Okay, you have. . .

. . . Right?

Okay, here’s the next part.

Remember the number you chose from your meditation, and find the meaning of your path below.

Path 1: The Tower

Don’t resist change. There may be moments coming up when it feels as though everything is crumbling, while we are used to fearing these times, know that they are presenting you with a new way forward. The energy of The Tower is like a spring storm, it rips through, knocking down trees, hammering the earth with water, and knocking out the power. But that first moment stepping outside afterwards almost feels healing as we feel the cool air and smell the freshness around us. Gripping and trying to cling to what is being torn from our lives is like running the wrong way up a never-ending escalator. You eventually get exhausted and spit out the bottom anyway. All you have done is delay the inevitable and delay your next steps forward on your journey. Consider where you may be clinging to things that are no longer right for you and practice letting go and creating more room for the next thing to come in.

Path 2: The Fool

Are you an Indiana Jones fan? There is a scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where Indy has to cross a massive, bottomless chasm. There’s no bridge, no nothing to help him cross. He realizes that he has to have faith and he steps out into nothingness. As soon as he does, an invisible bridge is suddenly revealed and he crosses safely. This is the same energy as The Fool card. The universe is asking you to take the risk, to step out of your comfort zone, to do that thing you’ve been unsure of. Something may have sprung immediately to mind, you may already know what you need to do. However, if it hasn’t, consider trying something new, out of character, and a little uncomfortable. These type of experiences, at the very least, build our expand our sense of self and grow our confidence. At the most, they set us on a path that has yet to reveal itself.

Path 3: The Emperor

Structure. Structure. Structure. I lost count of how many times I pull The Emperor card in the early days of the pandemic. I was home all day long, not going out, rarely changing out of my pajamas and not sure what to do with myself or my days. The Emperor wants you to create a plan, study, practice, make lists. Map out your next steps, mark down your goals, now write out what you need to do to achieve them. Not sure what your goals should be? That’s okay. It doesn’t really matter, our goals exist to move us in a direction, to give us focus, however, it is completely normal for us to change direction partway towards a goal, but the path towards it is the important piece. Once you have a focus, you’ll be moving forward towards your destiny.

Path 4: The Hierophant

Seek learning. The Hierophant represents a spiritual teacher, someone to mentor you. That said, it can suggest in learning in many forms, from community, books, online, deepening an existing practice. If you already know what you are being called towards, study it, go deeper, find more understanding with it. If you have no idea, put yourself in the spiritual section of a book store and let a book call to you. You an lean into bibliomancy. Stand in front of the book shelf (maybe even you one at home), close your eyes. Breathe deeply and ask Spirit, ‘where am I being guided to next?’ Reach out, with your eyes still closed and touch a book. Or you may have ‘seen’ which book you are meant to pull off the shelf. This is the place to start.

Path 5: The Hermit

Your path now is to turn inward. Invest in yourself through meditation, mindfulness, silent practices. Have you ever spent a whole day intentionally practicing silence? There is a lot to be learned about how we interact with the world, how busy our minds are and how difficult that makes it for us to expand spiritually. Consider finding a regular time to meditate, whether that’s daily or weekly, it will help you find clarity and strengthen your awareness between what are your thoughts and what are messages from Spirit. For some of you, the idea of quit introspective time feels luxurious and self indulgent, but for many it will feel scary to be still and alone with our thoughts. If the later is how you feel, then this is an especially important path for your growth.

Good luck on your journey. And remember, you can practice this as often as you like. If you have your own deck of cards, listen to the meditation, then pull five cards and flip over the one that corresponds to the path you chose. If you don’t have a deck of cards, you can write messages on pieces of paper, shuffle and lay them out, then meditate and choose your path. All these ways are effective!
