Rebrand your day
Remember crockpots in the 80s and how they fell out of popularity? But then in the 2000s hit and slow-cookers were all the rage? Or how pressure cookers were a foreign thing your mom talked about, and now everyone is in love with their instant pots? Rebranding, it's a powerful thing.
At the core of rebranding is language. The words we use impact us and our culture. Hysteria comes from the Greek word for uterus. . . see what I mean? The words we use matter.
Now, how many times have you felt like you 'should' start a daily practice, ritual, or sadhana but feel like you don't have enough time? Or maybe you are overwhelmed by the volume of options and how to pretzel them into your jampacked schedule.
Daily rituals like spending time in nature, chanting mantras, practicing yoga, expressing gratitude, deep breathing, drinking cacao, and more are all designed to regulate our nervous system. Doing them regularly - and with intention - can anchor in what can sometimes feel like an otherwise chaotic world.
In talking with more and more people about it, I've found lately that many of us already have healthy practices, but we haven't branded them as such, so they are missing the intentional piece.
The cup of coffee or tea that you have in the morning. Rather than it being your lifeline to function, could it be your morning ritual? Perhaps you prepare it in silence, inhaling the warm scent of it deeply, consider what you are grateful for between sips, and set an intention for your day as you finish?
Do you ever arrive somewhere and sit in the car for an extra minute or two before getting out? Chances are you are taking some deep breathes to collect yourself before intentionally shifting your attention to the next task at hand. This can be your daily practice.
Have a dog that you have to walk, rain or shine? Your familiar (extra witchy points) encourages you to spend time in nature and enjoy embodied movement. A slight shift in perception and awareness can change a rainy day dog walk from a chore into a daily spiritual practice that benefits your nervous system.
Do you enjoy cranking the tunes to sing and dance in your kitchen? I'm not even a little bit joking when I say that Def Leopard's Pour Some Sugar On Me can be a spiritual experience.
If you are feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of incorporating daily practices into your life, I invite you to look at things that you're already do regularly and see where rebranding with intention and awareness may serve you.
